Burglars brandishing a cricket bat and a broom handle injured a man and a woman as they stole jewellery from a Leicester home.

The break-in at a property in Marsham Close, Hamilton, on August 16, happened between 11.07pm and 11.20pm.

The suspects have been described as white and were wearing black clothing with their faces covered; they got into the property and threatened the man and woman that lived there.

The victims escaped the property and the suspects then made their way to Saxthorne Road where they left the scene in a silver car.

Items stolen in the incident include a gold chain which had two pendants, other jewellery items and a pink handbag which had a purse in it containing a credit card.

The victims were taken to hospital by ambulance and have both since been discharged.

The police are urging anyone that witnessed the event at any point to come forward.
